1922 Community Series – Ryan Gibson (Against the Grain Remodelling)

Q1: What challenges did you face while creating the shop space in Toronto, and how did you overcome them?

Answer: Renovation projects always have challenges. The old building posed issues with meeting building codes and AGCO requirements. We used clever design ideas to overcome these challenges, making the space both compliant and inviting.

Q2: Where does your inspiration come from?

Answer: My family inspires me with their hard work. They push me to give my best every day.

Q3: How did AGCO guidelines impact the store’s design?

Answer: Meeting tight security requirements for an old building meant starting from scratch on many things, ensuring compliance with AGCO guidelines.

Q4: Thoughts on the current trend of store layouts and designs in the cannabis industry?

Answer: With COVID-related changes like curbside pickup, many stores had to adapt quickly. Some spaces are cool and provide a comfortable experience.

Q5: What do you love most about your job?

Answer: I love the feeling of building and creating spaces that people can enjoy.

Q6: Your thoughts on the cannabis industry’s growth and what you look forward to?

Answer: The market is saturated with many stores. Creative strategies and unique spaces will likely set brands apart in the evolving cannabis industry.
